Our Magnetic Tiles (Magna-Tiles) never get old. They are played with more often than any other building material in our house (which is one reason we included them in our Gift Guide!). Last week my four-year-old came up with an amazing Magna-Tiles Hack that I was blown away by, and this week I came up with a Magna Tiles activity that equally delighted them- Cathedrals in the Clouds!
Cathedrals in the Clouds- Magnetic Tiles Activity
Ever since our big move to North Dakota, we’ve had to acquaint ourselves with snow. This is the first time my kids have ever experienced snow and, needless to say, they love playing in it (and eating it…we’re still working on that one ;-)), but man does it get COLD!!! The temps today were in the single digits, and when you factor in wind chill it got well below zero! Yikes! That meant we had to stay inside all day. Since my kids can get a little wild when they’re cooped up indoors, I needed a novel experience to capture their attention and keep them happily occupied…which led me to bring a tub of snow to play with indoors (watching me bring a tub of snow inside definitely got their attention right away!)
Supplies:
I love activities that are easy to set up! For this one, I placed snow in a tub along with Magna-Tiles. Done! The next thing to do was invite my kids over to build “cathedrals in the clouds” (you could just as well call in Magna-Tiles in snow, but it’s much more fun to give the activity an imaginative name :-))

How inviting does this look?!? And with a name like “cathedrals in the clouds,” the activity was irresistible to my kids!
My four year old went at it with bare hands, but my three-year-old felt the need to build with gloves on. I loved both of their approaches to the activity!
The snow provided a fun and unique setting for this Magna-Tiles building activity. It led to lots of imaginative story- telling and pretend play! How would your kids enjoy this fun winter-time invitation to build? Share your photos with Munchkins and Moms on Instagram, I’d love to see how this goes over in your home!
