Read Across America Day is March 2nd!
As a former teacher, Read Across America Day (a.k.a Dr. Seuss’ birthday) has a special place in my heart. It is usually celebrated by teachers by reading and doing fun classroom projects based on Dr. Seuss books. Being that the classic Seuss book is The Cat in the Hat, I wanted to come up with a fun art activity to celebrate the occasion!

Clorox Wipes Container (empty)

Are you familiar with marble painting? It’s a classic art project that uses marbles rolling across paper to make fantastic designs! One of my favorite marble painting ideas came from Laura at Sunny Day Family. Her Shake It Up Painting idea was the inspiration for this (and I love how she used unexpected kitchen supplies for her project)!
I took the label off of an empty Clorox Wipes container and some red Scotch tape to replicate The cat in the Hat’s famous hat!

A circle cut out of craft foam and hot glued to the lid of the wipes container finished off the brims of the cat’s hat. (You might also want to hot-glue the flap of the container closed. It tends to fly open with vigorous shaking and marbles fly out of it!)
Once the hat was made, I placed plain white paper inside along with a few drops of paint and some marbles.
The next step is the funnnnnnnn!!! Put on the lid and have the kids shake it up to create their art!
