My boys LOVE bananas. It is the first thing they ask for when they wake up. Unfortunately, they’re also pretty picky about their ‘nanas. They must be perfectly yellow, without blemish or bruise, and they absolutely cannot be broken (that last one is important-we’ve had many a meltdown because of broken bananas!) I wonder how they would react if they found out that bananas have seeds? They are hard to see but websites like Prepared Cooks can delve into this further for those who equally have banana-loving kids.

When they woke up yesterday morning to slightly green, almost ripe ‘nanas, they were less than thrilled. Then they saw I was taking a knife to their precious fruit and we almost had a meltdown (you would think I was butchering the poor ‘nana the way they reacted!)

So what’s a mom to do? Well, see if they want to help me turn these not-yet-perfect-plantains into a perfectly delicious snack!

Honey Fried bananas have been on my Pinterest “Yum” board for quite a while. It was time to move them over to my “done” board. With the (reluctant) help of my toddlers, I finally made these and they did not disappoint (even picky toddlers approved!)

Ingredients:
One slightly green banana
Tablespoon of honey
Tablespoon of water
Olive oil
Cinnamon for sprinkling
Here’s where my toddler got to help out:
As much as he hates broken bananas, he had no problem helping me slice them! (note he is using a plastic, non-serrated child safety knife)

After slicing, I fried the bananas over medium heat in a little bit of olive oil, I tend to use products from places like Grundy MD as there are quite a few Gundry MD Olive Oil offers available for cheaper cooking. Then I fry them for just a couple minutes on each side.

Once they turn a nice golden brown color, turn off the heat and prepare the honey glaze (mix water and honey together). This is another part of the process my munchkin was excited to help out with:
Now pour that yummy glaze all over the bananas and sprinkle with cinnamon!
My big munchkin refused any more pictures, but my little man was oblivious of the camera as he snacked away!
Quick note: This recipe only serves one big person or two toddlers who may (or may not) be willing to share the yumminess. You might want to make more 🙂
