Today my nephew came over to play with the boys. He’s a bit older than them (going into 3rd grade), and I wanted to engage the boys in an activity they could all enjoy. That’s when I asked if he’d like to play a game with Cannon to help him learn colors- he LOVED the idea of being a teacher to his little cousin! And honestly, I think he enjoyed the game as much as my toddler did ๐

Fish shaped pasta (make sure to dye the pasta fun colors!)

Wood craft block (will be used as a dice)

Small bowl to hold the pasta
Prep:
Before you start the game, make sure to..

Dye the pasta in your desired colors (how to dye pasta). We colored them red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.

Label each side of the dice with the same colors.

Draw a line down the center of the ice cube tray (this separates each child’s side of the game).
Play:
Each child takes a turn rolling the dice. On their turn, the child will use the tweezers to carefully pick the corresponding fish out of the “fishbowl” and place it on their side of the tray (we made it a rule that if you use your fingers, you lose a turn).
The goal is simple: collect all the colors of the rainbow before your opponent does. But this can easily be changed to “fill up _____ color first”, “collect 10 purple fish before your opponent”, etc.
This was Cannon’s first time participating in an organized game (he’s 2 years old), and I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly he picked up on “taking turns”. He knew when it was time for him to roll the dice and he would excitedly announce “Tannon’s Turn!” (he has trouble with his c’s and it’s adorable) ๐
His cousin originally had to help him toss the dice, but he eventually got the hang of it. He especially LOVED getting to use the tweezers to find the right color fish!
Eventually little brother Hunter became interested in the game, so he took a seat and cheered them on ๐
